MSLA 3D printing: detail, smooth surfaces and precision

MSLA (Masked Stereolithography) cures resins with high-resolution UV light. You get smooth surfaces, fine detail and tight tolerances — ideal for aesthetic prototypes, precision components and engineering models.

Doppialinea selects engineering resins according to the stiffness, temperature and flexibility your project requires.

When to choose MSLA

  • Aesthetic mock-ups and product presentations
  • Components with fine details and precise fillets
  • Technical moulds and masters for silicone
  • Smooth-surfaced parts without heavy post-processing

Limitations to consider

  • Less suited to extreme mechanical loads than SLS
  • UV exposure and temperature: assess the operating environment
  • Very large geometries: FDM or SLS is often a better fit

Files and checks

  • STL with a closed mesh and consistent orientation
  • Minimum wall thicknesses for resin (see the guidelines on this page)
  • Team support for special resins or tight tolerances
